Extermination by Any Other Name . . .

Died 17 September – Woquini, a Cheyenne warrior known as Roman Nose to whites but as Hook Nose to members of his tribe. Woquini was killed in battle while fighting the army of the United States during that phase of American history that can be called by many names, including “Western Expansion,” “Manifest Destiny,” “A Modern Version of the Old Testament Conquest Narratives,” and “Overt Genocide.”
