2 March 1836 – The Republic of Texas declares its independence from Mexico. Shortly thereafter, the interim President of Texas David G. Burnet made a speech: “We Texans have declared our independence from Mexico for three reasons: First, so that we can continue to keep slaves; second, so that English can become our official language; and third, so that . . . ummm . . . and third . . . oops!”
Maybe he was going to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency.
One of the figures in the photograph below may or may not be David G. Burnet, but it doesn’t really matter.
